History

New Dorp Lane District was founded in 2014 by the New Dorp Merchant Group, former Council Member Steven Matteo and the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC). New Dorp Lane District is one of New York City’s business improvement districts, which is aimed at organizing the business community along New Dorp Lane and New Dorp Plaza, comprising over 150 businesses, and to provide them additional services to enhance the economic vitality of the corridor.

New Dorp is one of the oldest European settlements in New York City. The historic town recently celebrated its 350th birthday on June 15, 2021.

What is a BID?

A business improvement district (BID) is a public-private partnership in which property owners and business owners collectively agree to pay for additional services such as maintenance, sanitation, marketing, and events to enhance their district and make it more appealing for people to work, shop and live. The BID addresses these issues by providing regular sanitation and beautification services, a targeted marketing and branding strategy, economic development support, comprehensive long term planning and public advocacy.
